and 15 lbs of flour = Dog treats for at least 3 months (hopefully)
The more recalls that happen the less likely I am to be lazy and buy dog treats. I never do things halfway so I took 2 days to factory crank out dog treats. The worst part about making your own dog treats is that it takes forever to only make 24 or so treats on one cookie sheet. I need more bang for my time. So I got creative and I think it paid off.
First I slightly thawed out some ground venison in the microwave
Then cubed the half frozen meat and cooked it in a skillet
Threw about 5-6lbs of cooked meat into a bowl and added 3 cups of flour
Mixed until my arms felt like they were going to fall off. since I was cooking with venison I just let the grease help bond the flour to the meat. If I was using ground beef I would probably drain some of the grease off before mixing.
Since I'm too lazy to scrub dishes I lined a cookie sheet with 2 pieces of tin foil so every inch was lined.
Dump the contents of the bowl and mush it down with your hands
Afterwards it should look like this. Then I got smart and sprinkled glucosamine powder and Kelp powder to the top. Hey that saves me 2 steps in my nightly feeding routine!
I cooked on 450 degrees for about 30 minutes.
The top was nice and crusty and the insides were still a little gooey. Almost like meatloaf.
After it cools a pizza cutter worked best. It was even easier to slide the tin foil off the cookie sheet and cut it while flat on the counter. I then put the cooled squares in a freezer bag and they are in the freezer for freshness. The cookies we are currently using are being kept in the fridge. I say this was a success and guaranteed not to kill my pups!
