Sunshine,
I see a few pictures of you at the beach. I want to take my dog with me to Florida, but I'm worried that she'll get too hot. How do you stay cool, and what do you hook your leash to once you're there?
We went to the beach for the first time last year. It was SO MUCH FUN! Mommy put me on this really long leash and I chased tennis balls in the waves. I was hopping around everywhere in the ocean. We went to the Dewey Greyhounds Reach the Beach so there were greyhounds everywhere! We went to watch the sun come up one morning and it was cold! Mommy had to zipper up her coat around me to stop me from shivering.
Some non greyhound puppies weren't on a leash but they were all very well mannered and none of them came up and scared me. After playing the the ocean I rolled around in the sand and dug myself a nice comfy sleepy hole. We all took a nap, even Mommy. Mommy just switched us back to the shorter leashes and slip knoted them around her arm while we all slept.
Our Aunt Sarah had brought a beach umbrella for shade since it was hot even in October. We only stayed on the beach for a few hours, but I don't think it would be too much fun if it was hotter outside.
Maybe make sure your pup cools off in the ocean before sleeping in the sand for a short while so they don't get too hot? It's fun if you pay attention. If your puppy starts to pant then it's time to go play in the ocean again or go back home to the noisy machine that makes it nice and cold inside.
It's fun to go places and do new things but that bright thing in the sky can makes us sick very quickly so be careful! I'm always sad when we go places and I see puppies that are tired and hot while their humans have no clue...
Have fun at the beach and make sure you take pictures!
Sunshine
