Our vet trip update

We went to the vet yesterday.

We see Dr Beyer who is the most greyhound savvy vet I have ever seen! I
thought I was at a greyhound vet before and was very mistaken. She has
Sunshine chemically worked out and rapidly on her way to normal within 6
months. I regret the years of anxiety before when I could have had her
fixed quicker. Stupid Mom mistake that I am trying to not make again!

We did bloodwork on Rainy to see if anything will show up there that might
cause an increase in her startling to certain noises. Dr Beyer actually
brought up a good point. Rainy might have picked this up through the years
of 'helping' Sunshine be less scared. She wants to start her on the same
dose of Amatriptalyn that Sunshine is on (makes it so much easier on me)
and check back with us in 3 months to see how she is doing.

I should hear back on Wednesday about the bloodwork, but Dr Beyer isn't
expecting anything there. She commented on how nice their coats, teeth,
ears, weight, body condition, all are. Last time we were there I was able
to just toss out a casual “oh we don't brush teeth...” and she dropped it
at that. This time she was wiser and asked directly what I do for their
teeth. I asked her if she wanted the PC answer or the real one! LOL Told
her that we feed raw and are very anal and careful about balancing the
diets and not feeding unsafe bones for their chewing style, etc. I said
that we have had vets tell us that we are killing the dogs, etc. Dr Beyer
said that the bones sometimes do wonders for cleaning teeth and if it's
working to keep doing it. I get the idea she's not had any experience with
a raw diet, but she didn't lecture us! Said that since Rainy is already 8
years old and her teeth are so good that she may NEVER need a dental in her
life! Makes my wallet happy!

So we started Rainy on the meds last night and she's a little more whiny
and a lot more hungry already! I remember when we first started Sunshine
she was obsessively eating anything that would fit into her mouth and we
were going through a giant Costco size restaurant can of green beans every
3 days just to try and keep her belly feeling full for her. Guess I better
go buy some green beans on Tuesday!. Gonna be a long month of side
effects.....
