New Backyard!
Our backyard is a total disaster. Not only a mud pit, but when you step down you sink about 6 inches into the clay. Then you have to play nice to try and get your shoe back.
Last year we placed a drain across the yard and sunk a sump pump in the yard to pipe the water out to a storm drain. It worked for all the standing water, but didn't help with the squishy mud. It's not even spring yet and the backyard was BAD. We couldn't even imagine what this spring would bring with all the rain.
First we has 2 cubic yards of stone and 7 cubic yards of double shred mulch delivered.
We dug out all of the drenched clay! Talk about heavy. Used cat litter to soak up the standing water as we were digging.
Then we drilled holes in some black tubing
They make drain tube condoms! Who knew?
This second drain tube is going underneath the original drain tube.
Had to make sure everything was pitched or tilted to a nice angle to the water would run in the right place.
Tons of heavy wet clay. All hand dug. We hate clay right now...
We buried the drain
Then put a nice layer of stone down. Hopefully the water will drain through the stone to the tube and into the sump pump.
We found some weird round thing in the ground? Maybe an elevation marker form when the houses were built?
Then we woodchipped! Rainy's feet hurt when she walks on stones. After we let the girls out and BF saw how much they loved running in the wood chips. we decided to do the entire yard instead of just the bottom third.
I think it looks great! We haven't had any mud in almost 2 days! I think I can start mopping the kitchen floor again!
Still trying to decide what to do with all this extra clay. We just have it piled up behind the fence out back. Hoping someone will want it?
This ended up being an insane amount of work and it took us over a week. We had to cry uncle and get help for an entire day on Sunday. If this doesn't fix out water problem I'm not sure what our next step will be...
