A look back on 2011

Sitting here getting ready to ring in 2012, I can't help but think 2011 was pretty awesome! I'm finally pretty happy with my life. Have awesome critters and am always busy doing something it seems. I'm pretty content with my love life. I finally am starting to be happy with *me*.  Some of my life goals have shifted, but I suppose that happens with everyone along the way. Starting to learn how to distance myself more efficiently from stress in my life. That's been very important!

In the past year Sunshine has become even more of a normal dog. I can't wait to see what she's going to be like in a couple more years. Rainy has become even more pushy and vocal. She's always been so careful to be polite that it's nice to see her loosen up. We are still trying to get Murdoc to slow down and self regulate his food a bit better. Frizzle has gained a few lbs and is even more naughty then ever.  I've found a niche in the world where not as many people think I'm so crazy and insane about my wacky pet ideas. (raw food, min vacs, etc)

Overall I'm looking forward to 2012! My main goal is to learn how to schedule myself some more down time to relax.

Happy New Year to All!

Stuffy Carnage

Sunshine played herself out! Now I need to vacuum...

Introducing Murdoc

I'm a big kitty! I'm usually not too chatty... Don't like to be pet although I'm getting better about not biting people when they do pet me. I love to eat! Mom has to feed us in this contraption that makes us scoop the kibble out with our paws since I will eat and eat and eat until my belly hurts and it all comes back up! Chewing is for sissies.

I'm not too sure about this fireplace thing....

I do love my cuddly toys though!

Dinner update

Meal plan for the pups today
ground beef
Ground turkey necks
Kefir milk
big hunk of Italian bread and butter

I don't have enough time for my pet anymore

Everyone be prepared for a rant...

People's excuses irritate me! "I love my pets so much but no longer have time for them. I feel so bad that they just sleep on the couch all the time and I cannot walk them for 3-4 hours every day. I have no yard and they only go to the park once a week"

Seriously people??? My dogs sleep over 18 hours a day! They were SO abused for the past 3 years by only going for a long walk once a week and having to only deal with short potty walks 3 times a day.  If you don't want to deal with your pets anymore at least be honest. You just don't want to deal with them anymore. It's not that hard to say the words. Have a backbone and stop worrying what people are thinking about you.

How much 'time' do people really think pets take up?

1. They need to be fed

2. They need to have their waste picked up

3. You need to interact with them, which you can easily do while watching TV

4. Training is always a plus, but should never be more than 5-10 minutes or so at one time

5. It's always a good idea to exercise/tire them out. This can be cut into less than 1/2 the time with some methods

So where is this large amount of time that is required???

Stop making frivolous excuses for your laziness and lack of commitment to training. Yes, you have to train a new dog as they enter your home. No, they don't automatically know exactly what the rules are.

Of course there is always a reason that people cannot return the pet to where they came from. That's why they are whining on some internet forum or posting on craigslist. Any reputable breeder will take their animals back. Puppy/Kitty mills usually will not! Any reputable rescue will take their animal back. If you thought enough of the rescue to use them in the first place why is it such a horrible thing to return the pet there? Usually breed rescues are the best places to return a pet.

Of course the crappy owner who wants to be rid of the pet in the first place is always more educated in how to rehome their animals. No no one ever lies to easily collect bait animals on craigslist, who would do such a thing? Why would anyone ever need to check references?

Next, stop using your age/life situation as a reasonable excuse. It's not. You just threw that out there to make yourself feel better.

Those of us who have been through a bit of life just grit our teeth, roll our eyes, and try our hardest to be polite to you in hopes that you will in fact be responsible by returning your poor pet to a rescue. Secretly we are ranting the above in our heads silently...

You decided you made a mistake and can no longer care for your pet? Fine. Take care of things like an adult and return the animal to the rescue group. Stop being a dramatic baby and thinking of only yourself.

Phew, ok I feel better now

Kitty Xmas 2011

The kitties never unwrap anything! I tried to give them some dried sardines that Santa brought and they were less than thrilled... They sure did like the wet food though. That's always a special treat.

Greyhound Xmas 2011

Anyone know how hard it id to get two greyhounds to open their Santa gifts AND take pics at the same time? Clearly I needed at least 1 assistant.

I have given up on wrapping any toys. they won't unwrap those! They actually got a toy early.  A long grunty loofa for each of them. It was a light Xmas this year since they got a *cough* HOUSE *cough* with a yard! Now that is a great present.

Find the kitty in the trash bag

Is this a subtle hint for us to turn up the heat?

Sleepy pups

Dinner menu consisted of
Ground beef
Ground turkey necks
Kefir milk/yogurt
1/2 cheeseburger for each

Shhh... If the word got out we would have greyhounds beating down the front door!

Last Week Sunshine Happenings

Sunshine says "No I wasn't eating that fish food... No clue what your talking about..."

She napped on the big bed every day

Cuddled with her tennis ball

My ball!

Christmas 2011

We had a lot of fun this Xmas. My first Xmas with the BF's kid (BFK) We went to see the local house that puts on an amazing light display each year. This is one private house that does all of this! It's crazy! I wonder what their monthly electric bill is?

We even made gingerbread men!

Can't wait to see what next Xmas brings!

Introducing Rainy

I'm 7 years old and I raced until I was 4. I was a pretty good racer who was in the money most of the time. Here is my pedigree

http://www.greyhound-data.com/d?z=e4ZA4N&d=ph+make+it+rain&x=0&y=0

When I first got my forever home I tried very hard to be the perfect greyhound. I did a greyt job!  I'm slowly starting to practice for when I reach 10yrs old and do not have to have any manners. I anticipate life will be much more fun then...

I try to show that puppy, Sunshine, how to act in the world. Someday she will pay attention to my social ques. I know when someone is too scared to pet me and I know when someone really wants to love on me! I know a lot of things about people that they didn't even know about themselves.

Here are some recent pics of me

Introducing Sunshine

Hello everyone! I'm Sunshine, the cutest little most well behaved greyhound you will ever meet. That's my story and I'm sticking to it!

Here I am being cute and crazy in the morning

I am now 4 years old. I'll be 5 on April 17, and my Mom keeps asking when I will 'grow up?' Not sure what THAT means... My job is to make sure everyone laughs every day. I'm pretty good at it too! Much better than racing. I flunked out of school very quickly.

My track name was GS Jazz. Here are the rest of my family http://www.greyhound-data.com/d?z=0o31wx&d=gs+Jazz&x=24&y=17

Those pictures of me are very old... I don't even look like the same dog anymore! Getting my forever home was very scary and it took a long time for me to feel safe. I still get very scared at strangers but my Mom says that I'm a normal scared dog now.  Normal must be good right?  We do lots of traveling or other scary stuff every day. I try to be very brave for every situation.  My Greyhound Mom just taught me about Stranger Danger and I NEVER forgot it! I do like strangers that have string cheese... Everyone calls me a piggy!

Test...

So I'm starting to blog again. I never thought I had a whole lot to say but apparently I do! I've grown increasingly frustrated with my wide spread forums. They are hard to keep up with them all. Facebook was awesome until the recent changes. I miss most of the posts that I want to see. I love the functionality of Google+ but no one is on it yet. So the end result is that I am going to try blogging again!

The topics will most likely be scattered and wide spread. Mainly focused on greyhounds, cats, raw feeding, food recipes, and other random events of our lives.
